Friday evening, I did my annual pilgrimage up onto to Derwent edge to see how the heather was coming on. Setting off over the more I could already see that it was looking fantastic so I was quite excited to see how things were when I got up on to Derwent Edge. I wasn’t disappointed the heather was looking fantastic certainly better than I’ve seen it for the last couple of years. I stopped several times to take photos on my way up to the Salt Cellar but there was a little amount of cloud which was preventing the sun from coming through but nice and clear over the horizon so I could see that I was in for a treat later on. Arriving at the Salt Cellar the light was already changing and I could tell that it was going to be something special. As the sunset drew nearer the sky just lit up with the most amazing display of colours complementing the heather nicely. It’s a good walk to get up here but you don’t mind the aching knees when you get back when you presented with conditions like these.
